If you're wondering about it, let me say this:

Image
  • Spreadsheet focusing on the fates of the Starfleet crew/main characters from each Star Trek entry.

  • Spreadsheet focusing on the fates of the original Jedi Order who appeared in the Star Wars prequels and other media but barring those who became Jedi after Order 66 (i.e. Ezra Bridger, Luke Skywalker etc).

  • Spreadsheet focusing on the actor birthdays from Super Sentai.

  • Spreadsheet focusing on the actor birthdays from Power Rangers.

Well, here's this Staples ad.

This morning, I saw Back to Black and here's my verdict.

Image

Despite my initial fears that the Amy Winehouse biopic could be like that Netflix biopic on Marilyn Monroe as in Blonde, I did think it was fine but I do understand why this has pissed off fans and those who knew the late British singer who sadly lost her life to alcohol poisoning in 2011.

That said, I do think the film would've worked better if her close friends were involved as well as being directed by someone else or heck, it could've been a ITV1 or Channel 4 miniseries instead but anyway, Marisa Abela does a great job at playing the singer and interestingly enough, she shares the same birthday as me. I did not know that and I do plan on watching that documentary about her from Asif Kapadia one day.

Trailers:

  1. The Fall Guy (12A) – Trailer 2

  2. Love Lies Bleeding (15)

  3. Challengers (12A)

  4. Something in the Water (15)

To play us out, here's Winehouse's last solo hit in her lifetime.

But sorry, Disney. Big Hero 6 is Marvel.

Image

This isn't me criticising the film but I liked it when I first saw it in the cinemas nine years ago. It's just that I'm not happy that both Disney and Marvel aren't interested in republishing their 616 comics despite the film's success in order to aim towards those who enjoyed the film, which is why the comic book series set in the film's universe was published by IDW, who actually have published Marvel comics with the Marvel Action line a few years ago.

Isn't it any wonder that their refusal to republish the comics as well not putting the Marvel logo in the film's TV series sequel are the reasons why they've been absent from the main 616 continuity since the Amazing Spider-Man comic book storyline "Ends of the Earth" 12 years ago? I just wish they cared enough for the team to have them get a new comic book and whatnot.

Anyway, here's this Fall Out Boy song from the film.

86 years and a day ago, history was made in the comic book in form of Action Comics issue 1, which marked the first appearance of Superman and served as a breakthrough moment for National Comics, the comic book publisher that ultimately became DC Comics.

Image

For what it's worth, the Man of Steel himself truly began an age for superheroes and whatnot but not only that, he was truly one of the first superheroes in comic books, full stop.

His motto can be either "Truth, Justice and the American Way" or nowadays "Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow" and has been played by the likes of Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Tyler Hoechlin and soon David Corenswet. With that, happy Superman day and here's the iconic theme tune from the 1978 film.

So last night, me and Reece (formerly PrimalPrince) had a conversation on overrated writers via E-mail with him going for Stephen King, Dave Filoni, Aaron Ehasz and Ian Flynn with reasons like:

Image
  • King can tend to kill off animals in his stories and some of them are too bleak.

  • Filoni's better with other people than by himself like how The Clone Wars was a joint effort with him and George Lucas and The Mandalorian was a joint effort with him and Jon Favreau as well as stating some of the problems from Ahsoka such as Sabine's stomach injury wasn't very serious when really it should've been and Anakin's Force Ghost being more concerned for his former Padawan than Luke and Leia.

  • Ehasz's best work in Avatar: The Last Airbender were mainly those he co-wrote with his then-wife Elizabeth Welch and that The Dragon Prince lost some momentum due to the three-year gap and change of head writers.

  • Flynn overstaying his welcome in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics as he's lasted much longer than his predecessors Karl Bollers and Ken Penders.

When he asked if I any, I said Brian Michael Bendis and Tom Taylor with reasons like:

  • Bendis' run on the X-Men in which we saw teen Jean outing teen Bobby as a gay teenager which divided opinion as while there is nothing wrong with the latter being a queer character, the problem is that it was poorly executed. I mean, Dana Terrace did much better when it came to queer characters in her Disney Channel series The Owl House and she's an out and proud bisexual woman.

  • Taylor's run on the Titans as he's among those who have constantly whitewashed Barbara's unheroic actions from the late Nineties to the Noughties like being very xenophobic towards Kory and victim blaming Dick after he was sexually assaulted by Tarantula, which Reece added extra points like she's not a great role model, given her treatment towards her Batgirl successor Cassandra and Taylor having Garfield and Raven's romance restored but then made it dysfunctional along with that I'm pissed off that people tend to ignore that she's NOT the first Batgirl as that honour goes to Kate Kane's cousin Better before she became Flamebird.

Given that he's sceptical on the upcoming Gunn relaunch of the DCEU due to him going for recent comics as he's worried what he'd do for Garfield, I'm not even surprised about his comments on Bendis and Taylor.

Before concluding the discussion, I did say Garfield returning back as Beast Boy after twenty years (publication wise) as Changeling was not a smart move as I thought Changeling was to him, like Nightwing, Flash III, Troia, Arsenal, Tempest and Omen is to Dick, Wally, Donna, Roy, Garth and Lilith, something he agreed with though pointed out that Troia is a vulgar word in Italian (in case you're wondering, it means whore), which is why recent comics have Donna forgoing a codename.

Anyway, I've got more overrated writers:

  • J.K. Rowling - While I grew up watching the Harry Potter films as a kid, I strongly do not condone her transphobic comments at all, especially that several actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson etc have distanced themselves from her.

  • Thomas Astruc - His unpleasant reputation with fans of his series Miraculous Ladybug and Reece has a low opinion on him along with how the show's recent seasons under his tenure haven't had the same success as the early seasons.

  • Mark Millar - There's a reason why Captain America: Civil War, the MCU adaptation of his story, was a loose adaptation than a straightforward one because it focused more on the issue of government control rather than public knowledge of secret identities as well as that it's this story that resulted in his falling out with Grant Morrison and so on.

  • Dan Slott - Let's just say this jerk should just go away, given what he did during his run on Spider-Man as well as that CBR really should kick him out of their forum.

  • Devin Grayson - While her Titans run is fine, it's her Nightwing run that really pissed off fans and need I say more?

  • John Byrne - As much as I'd admire his work on X-Men and Superman, I do not like what he did to Wanda in his Avengers run that unfortunately come to define her for years to come, especially with Bendis' Disassembled, House of M, The Trial of Magneto etc with those constantly having some of the X-Men members treating her like crap and regressing back to villainy in some stories, not helped by what happened in Wandavision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I know there are those who are fine with the Axis retcon that she and Pietro are not Magneto's children, but that did more harm than good especially with retconning out their Jewish ancestry by being fully Romani than being of mixed Jewish/Romani descent and there are those who preferred their origins as the kids of the Whizzer and Miss America.

  • Garth Ennis - While it is true that he's a fan of Superman and Spider-Man, he's the same guy who pokes fun of superheroes in any of his DC and Marvel works or even in say, The Boys.

Anyone else in mind? @RazorRex, @Crystalias, @hayley566, @Anicomicgeek, Arcalian, @PeachLover94, @CobaltKent, Dreddzilla, EarthCenturion, Zigwolf etc.

UPDATE (0914 BST, 16-04-2024): Overrated writers suggested by those I've tagged.

  • Dreddzilla - Garth Ennis (same reasons as me), Frank Miller and Alan Moore (his later works coming off as mean-spirited unlike his earlier works that are considered to be classic and Lost Girls)

  • Christopher (Crystalias) - Brian Michael Bendis (most of his work outside of Ultimate Spider-Man), Frank Miller (his works after The Dark Knight Returns like Sun City, Holy Terror etc), Zack Snyder (great at directing, not great at writing especially with some of his fans constantly overhyping his DCEU films and so on) and Chris Chibnall (his tenure as Doctor Who showrunner)

  • Adam (PeachLover94) - Garth Ennis (same reasons as me), Frank Miller and J.K. Rowling (same reasons as me)

  • Alex (CobaltKent) - Tom Taylor (same reasons as me), J.K. Rowling (same reasons as me), Dan Slott (same reasons as me) and Toshiki Inoue (his works after Kamen Rider 555)

  • Chase (RazorRex) - Troy Duffy (boring storytelling and The Boondock Saints not aged well thanks to his egotism), Dan Schneider (a lot of things as covered in Jennette McCurdy's I'm Glad My Mom Died, Quiet on Set and Alexa Nikolas' YouTube channel) and Joss Whedon (his works on the MCU have aged poorly, Alien Resurrection and his humour has unfortunately coloured the perception of the films)

  • Chase (Anicomicgeek) - Joss Whedon, Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Taika Waititi, James Gunn, a lot of comic book writers (small name, big ego who think Twitter zealots are right about everything or are such themselves) and Mark Millar (being a hypocrite)

  • Arcalian - Grant Morrison (great writer who chose poorly in their later works), Neil Gaiman (great writer who chose poorly in his later works), Marv Wolfman (great writer who chose poorly in his later works), Nick Spencer (his Captain America run) and Dan Slott (Superior Spider-Man)

  • Hayley (hayley566) - Garth Ennis (edgelord writing), John Byrne (May-December romance in his works) and Butch Hartman (most of what made Danny Phantom worked were from other people as well as that his proposed sequel set 10 years after "Phantom Planet" just doesn't work without them and how The Fairly Odd Parents has not aged well)

  • EarthCenturion - Zeb Wells (his run on The Amazing Spider-Man)

  • Zigwolf - TBD

UPDATE (1108 BST, 18-04-2024): Had to replace PeterVanHelsing with Zigwolf due to his busy commitments.
