First Iron Fist, now this.

Netflix has released the first trailer of their upcoming live-action American adaptation of psychological thriller manga Death Note and well, the decision to have the main characters being non-Japanese (like for example Light being Caucasian and L being African American) has angered several fans.

Here's the trailer:

And a pic for the upcoming film:

This isn't the first live-action American adaptation of a Japanese manga to have caused controversy with racebending. Others like Ghost in the Shell and Dragonball Evolution have also had similar controversies as well.

In response to the controversy a year ago, producers Roy Lee and Dan Lin stated that "Our vision for Death Note has always been to...introduce the world to this dark and mysterious masterpiece. The talent and diversity represented in our cast, writing, and producing teams reflect our belief in staying true to the story’s concept of moral relevance — a universal theme that knows no racial boundaries."

Death Note is expected to be released on August 25 via Netflix. I may give it a watch since I have Netflix on Amazon Fire stick and on my phone.

Eh, I might watch it when it comes out. I could picture Johnny Yong Bosch playing Light in a live-action adaptation, though.
