There are writers who are just overrated
So last night, me and Reece (formerly PrimalPrince) had a conversation on overrated writers via E-mail with him going for Stephen King, Dave Filoni, Aaron Ehasz and Ian Flynn with reasons like: King can tend to kill off animals in his stories and some of them are too bleak. Filoni's better with other people than by himself like how The Clone Wars was a joint effort with him and George Lucas and The Mandalorian was a joint effort with him and Jon Favreau as well as stating some of the problems from Ahsoka such as Sabine's stomach injury wasn't very serious when really it should've been and Anakin's Force Ghost being more concerned for his former Padawan than Luke and Leia. Ehasz's best work in Avatar: The Last Airbender were mainly those he co-wrote with his then-wife Elizabeth Welch and that The Dragon Prince lost some momentum due to the three-year gap and change of head writers. Flynn overstaying his welcome in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics as he's lasted much longer than his
A follow up to last Friday's journal entry
Thursday's Cinemacon revealed big events coming up in Hasbro, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Avatarverse and the Monsterverse. For Hasbro, we're getting a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover film. I had a feeling that it was inevitable due to the last scene from Rise of the Beasts and for the Turtles, we're getting a live-action film adaptation of The Last Ronin. Honestly, I think it should be an animated miniseries instead. For the Avatarverse, the title for next year's Avatar: The Last Airbender animated film sequel has been revealed to be Aang: The Last Airbender and in addition to Jessica Matten as Katara, Eric Nam, Román Zaragoza and Dionne Quan (yep, Trixie Tang herself) will be voicing Aang, Sokka and Toph respectively with Dante Basco and most likely Jennie Kwan reprising their roles as Zuko and Suki respectively but wait there's more as Dave Bautista will be voicing the main antagonist. However, just hours after announcement, some people want a recast for Aang's actor as it
On the upcoming films with confirmed dates
This is in terms of films from these four franchises - DC, Marvel, Star Trek and Star Wars - of course. Just a list is all I'm saying and this excludes the direct-to-video animated films, of course. Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel) - July 26, 2024: Want to see it Kraven the Hunter (Marvel) - August 30, 2024: Will not see it because I seriously don't trust Sony Joker: Folie à Deux (DC) - October 4, 2024: Want to see it Venom: The Last Dance (Marvel) - October 25, 2024: Want to see it Star Trek: Section 31 (Star Trek) - TBA 2024: Want to see it mainly because of Michelle Yeoh Captain America: Brave New World (Marvel) - February 14, 2025: Unsure about it due to the inclusion of Sabra despite me being a fan of Harrison Ford Thunderbolts* (Marvel) - May 2, 2025: Unsure, given that it barely resembles the source material Superman (DC) - July 11, 2025: Want to see it, though my friend Reece (PrimalPrince) isn't interested as he doesn't trust Gunn will do justice and so on Fantastic Four
Civil War review: As they say, war is hell
This afternoon, I saw Civil War and here's my verdict. For what it's worth, Alex Garland's fourth and as confirmed by the man himself, last directorial effort, though he'll be co-directing Warfare with Ray Mendoza next year, showcases a not too distant future where the United States of America has been plagued by a second American Civil War in which the President is a straight up dictator. Anyway, now this film right here showcases a gripping side of the uncertainty in today's American culture especially the political side that has been increasingly polarised for the past eight years and I have to say that this is a well-made film, especially with the performances of Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny and Stephen McKinley Henderson. The fact that the film came out in the year in which we're seeing a rematch between incumbent President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump in this November's presidential elections shows how things like this can go horrendous. If this
